At Witney Smile Clinic, dental fillings are one of the most frequently performed procedures to restore teeth affected by decay or damage.
A dental filling is used to repair a cavity in your tooth, typically caused by decay, though injury, trauma, or general wear can also create the need for this treatment.
If a cavity has developed in one or more of your teeth, we’ll typically recommend a filling to repair it. Common signs include increased tooth sensitivity or discomfort, particularly when eating or chewing. Having a filling placed will relieve any pain, strengthen the affected tooth, and prevent the cavity from expanding further.
We use several different filling materials, with the most common being amalgam and composite resin. Amalgam is the traditional option, creating a silver-coloured restoration in your tooth. Composite resin offers a tooth-coloured alternative that blends naturally with your smile for a more discreet appearance.
During your appointment, we’ll begin by applying local anaesthetic to ensure the treatment area is completely comfortable. Once numb, we’ll carefully remove any decay or damaged tooth structure to access the cavity.
The cavity is then cleaned and prepared thoroughly before we place the filling material. Both amalgam and composite resin harden quickly, allowing us to shape and polish the restoration to ensure your bite feels natural and comfortable.
