Our dental team at Witney Smile Clinic will do everything possible to save a tooth from extraction, but there are some cases where it is the appropriate course of action.
A tooth extraction, although somewhat concerning for the patient, is a fairly routine procedure that is used to remove a tooth that is too damaged or decayed to be saved.
We’ll recommend a tooth extraction only when absolutely necessary. Reasons for requiring an extraction include impacted or infected wisdom teeth, overcrowding in the mouth, and in some cases, baby teeth that haven’t fallen out when adult teeth emerge. As mentioned, we might also recommend a tooth extraction if a tooth is damaged or decayed beyond restoration.
We’ll administer a local anaesthetic that will numb the area, ensuring you won’t feel any discomfort. In a straightforward tooth extraction, we’ll then gently loosen the tooth and carefully remove it from the socket.
If a tooth is impacted or positioned below the gum line due to being broken, we’ll need to create an incision in the gum, removing the tooth at its root. In this case, the gum will then be sutured to support the healing process.
